RESEARCH POSTER COMPETITION ANNOUNCEMENT

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 9, 2010!!!!

August 5-9, 2010 Tamaya Resort – Santa Ana Pueblo, NM
"Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Indian Country: Mind, Body, Spirit”

The Association of American Indian Physicians is seeking posters that address childhood obesity, strokes, mental health, cerebral vascular disease, kidney disease/renal failure, musculoskeletal disease, osteoarthritis, autoimmune disease/lupus, rheumatology, trauma-suicide, homicide, domestic violence, automobile accidents, poisoning and self-inflicted trauma. Poster submissions dealing with alcohol abuse prevention can receive funding to attend the Annual Meeting!

POSTER COMPETITION PRESENTERS WILL RECEIVE $100 OFF THE REGISTRATION FEE (first author only eligible for fee waiver).


David Pego Special Award
In honor of David Pego, a Special Poster Award of $250 is being offered this year for posters that address diabetes and diabetes-related complications.

There will be three eligible categories:
  1. Undergraduate,
  2. Graduate/Medical Student and
  3. Professional (includes residents, health care providers, and physicians).
Awards will be given to the top research posters in each category after a review by a panel of judges. The awards for each eligible category are:
1st Prize = $300
2nd Prize = $150
3rd Prize = $75

WHO: Undergraduate students, graduate students, resident physicians, health care providers, physicians, and other meeting attendees with relevant AI/AN health research.

WHEN: Poster Submissions deadline extended to July 9, 2010! Poster judging session will be Friday, August 6, 2010. Winners will be announced at the Presidential Reception.

WHERE: Tamaya Resort – Santa Ana Pueblo, NM

Applications must include the following items:

• Cover letter with name, contact information, student or professional status and brief biographical sketch
• Abstracts are limited to 250 words, single space, in MS WORD and must adhere to the following format:
  1. Title: One line description
  2. Author(s): Underline the name of the person presenting the poster
  3. Background: State the health issue/problem and its impact
  4. Objectives/Aims: State the objectives/aims of the research
  5. Methods: Describe the type of study, setting for the study, sample characteristics, measures used, how the analysis was conducted, etc.
  6. Results: Key findings from the study (no charts or graphs)
  7. Conclusions: The importance or relevance of results
  8. Presenter Information: List your name, address, e-mail, phone and fax
All Abstracts should be e-mailed to Gary Lankford at glankford@aaip.org. You will be notified by July 16, 2010 if your poster is approved to compete. Poster dimensions/guidelines will be included in notification.
