Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS) Big Brother/Big Sister Project |
ANAMS is offering a great opportunity for high
school and undergraduate Native American students who are thinking about or
trying to get into medical school.
Native American medical students are mentoring
students via e-mail and discussing with them the various opportunities offered
to high school and pre-med students, giving advice about particular medical
schools, helping with admission process (i.e. personal statements, interviews,
etc…), and sharing personal stories.
By offering this mentorship experience to these
students, it is a huge advantage to better understanding their decision to work
in the health care field. It is an intimidating process trying to gain
acceptance into medical school. Having positive support throughout the process
is truly invaluable.
ANAMS believes that this will hopefully help
strengthen the number of future Native American physicians and improve Native
American health care. We highly recommend that anyone who is interested in this
project to get involved.
