STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

Pre-admission Workshop Scholarship

The Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) and the University of Minnesota – Medical School, Center of American Indian and Minority Health will conduct a Pre-Admission Workshop in coordination with the AAIP 36th Annual Meeting & National Health Conference on July 26-27, 2007 in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Pre-Admission Workshop addresses common challenges encountered by students in the health professional application process.

Topics include the following:

• Selecting a Professional School
• Admissions Tests (MCAT)
• Personal Statement
• AMCAS Application
• Financial Aid /Scholarship Resources
• Interview Process
• Mock Interviews
• Physician and Medical Student Panel Presentations

The 2-day curriculum focuses upon skills necessary for successful application and admittance to health professional school. AAIP member physicians, Association of Native American Medical Students, university faculty and financial aid/scholarship representatives will present workshop lectures.

Please submit the scholarship application and required items by FRIDAY, JUNE 15, 2007. A total of twenty student scholarship awards are available. The AAIP scholarship will pay airfare or mileage reimbursement, lodging, and most meals.

Application Requirements:
AAIP Student Primary Data Sheet Scholarship Application (download application here PDF file).
• Recent College and/or University Transcript
• One Letter of Recommendation from a professor or academic advisor
• Copy of your Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood or Tribal Identification Card
• Recent photograph for identification and publication purposes
• 1 – 2 page Personal Statement

IMPORTANT – Scholarships to attend a Pre-Admission Workshop (PAW) are awarded to a student on a one-time basis.

National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Office of Minority Health Research Coordination Scholarship Announcement

The Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) announces its 36th Annual Meeting and National Conference scheduled for July 26 – 31, 2007 to be held in Nashville, Tennessee. The conference features student activities, plenary & breakout sessions, a woman’s retreat, research poster contest; contest powwow, exhibits, family night activities and much more. A Professional Development session will be held for interested students regarding academic medicine & research. You are cordially invited to attend and participate in this exciting conference.

The National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Office of Minority Health Research Coordination through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) provides scholarships for fifteen students to attend the entire AAIP Annual Meeting and National Conference. This scholarship provides for the student’s airfare, hotel lodging, and a per diem for meals.

Selected scholars will be required to attend the NIDDK afternoon session on Friday, July 27th. The remainder of the conference will be yours to attend all the other scheduled sessions and social activities.

A completed application must include the following and received in the AAIP office by Friday, June 15, 2007.
