School Health Index

The Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) is pleased to announce an opportunity for tribal schools or schools with 50% or more American Indian/Alaska Native children and youth to participate in our school wellness project.

The School Health Index (SHI): Self-Assessment & Planning Guide was developed by CDC in partnership with school administrators and staff, school health experts, parents, and national nongovernmental health and education agencies to:

  • Enable schools to identify strengths and weaknesses of health and safety policies and programs
  • Enable schools to develop an action plan for improving student health, which can be incorporated into the School Improvement Plan.
  • Engage teachers, parents, students, and the community in promoting health-enhancing behaviors and better health.

Schools can use this online assessment and planning tool to improve their health and safety policies and programs.

Interested schools will be partnered with an AAIP SHI Trainer who will facilitate the School Health Index workshop for designated staff.  The entire project from start to finish will require a 6-month commitment from the school.

Did we mention the stipend?  Each school with an approved School Action Plan will receive $2,000 for their time and effort.
