American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in the allied health or medicine fields.

About the PAW

The Pre-Admission Workshop is being held through the AAIP's partnership with the SUNY Upstate Medical University. SUNY Upstate invites pre-med/health American Indian and Canadian tribal students to a free 2-day Pre-Admission Workshop (PAW). The PAW provides the information and skills necessary to succeed in the medical and health-profession school admission process. Student participants will have the opportunity to network with peers, admission officers, financial aid officers, participate in mock interviews, hone personal statements and more!

Tentative Workshop Topics:

  • AMCAS 101
  • Admissions tests (MCAT) prep
  • Personal statements writing
  • Admissions committee panel
  • Financial aid and scholarship resources
  • Interview process including a mock interview
  • Physician & medical student panel presentations
  • SimCenter session

The Pre-Admission Workshop is a 2-day workshop aimed at addressing common challenges encountered by students in the health professional application process. The curriculum focuses on skills necessary for successful application and admittance to health professional school. 


Scholarships for the October 2019 PAW are available and awarded on a one-time basis. These scholarships will cover airfare, lodging and meals. 

Deadline for submission application and all requested materials is Sunday, September 15, 2019.
