Becoming a Member

Membership in AAIP offers a vast pool of opportunities for career growth through networking with other Native physicians across the country as well as opportunities to support future generations of Native health care providers by serving as role models for a variety of AAIP student programs. Here are the different membership options for Physicians:

A prospective member need only to provide sufficient verification or proof of American Indian or Alaska Native descent to be eligible for full voting membership. AAIP leadership acknowledges the many committed Native physicians who are less than a 1/8th blood quantum and we value their contributions to AI/AN health and to our Association. Please seriously consider re-establishing your membership or if not previously a member please join and support our mission.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES ELIGIBILITY & QUALIFICATIONS

There shall be the following categories of membership with stated qualifications, privileges, and restrictions:

Voting Membership.  There shall be only one (1) class of Voting Members within the Association.  Those individuals desiring to be a Voting Member shall complete the appropriate application process.  To be eligible as a Voting Member, an individual must meet one of the following criteria:

1.  Any individual who is an allopathic or osteopathic physician and who is able to provide acceptable verification or proof of American Indian/Alaska Native heritage or ancestry is eligible to become a Voting Member.

2.  Acceptable verification or proof may include but is not limited to:  certificate degree of Indian blood, tribal enrollment care or letter of descendency.

3.  All current-voting members of the Association shall be grandfathered into the Voting Membership category as set forth in the current Bylaws.

Non-Voting Members.  Any individual desiring to be a Non-Voting Members shall complete the appropriate application process.  Non-Voting Member Classes are as follows:

  • Associate Membership

Any individual who is an allopathic or osteopathic physician who is unable to provide acceptable verification or proof of American Indian/Alaska Native heritage or ancestry or not of American Indian/Alaska Native heritage or ancestry is eligible to become an Associate Member.

  • Honorary Membership

Any person who supports the mission of the Association who has distinguished himself or herself in an American Indian or Alaska Native health field or related health profession is eligible to be an Honorary Member.

  • Supporting Membership

Any person or entity that supports the mission and purposes of the Association, and who provides significant financial support to the Association is eligible to be a Supporting Member.

$250.00 Full Member Physician

$175.00 Associate Member Physician

$50.00   Retired Physician

$25.00   Resident
