American Indians Accessing Health Professions
August 7 – 9, 2014 at the University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Las Vegas Campus
American Indians Accessing Health Professions is a three-day program designed to encourage more American Indian students to pursue health professions. The program was created by three medical schools, a dental school, and in collaboration with the Association of American Indian Physicians. The AIAHP program is open to tribal college, community college, or freshman/sophomore college students.
Applications are now being accepted. All applications are due by May 18, 2014.
2014 Program Details:
This program is open to any currently-enrolled college student (6 or more credits) who is of American Indian/American Native background. There is no charge to participants. All travel, food and program expenses are paid.
To apply, complete the 2014 Program Application and Instructions and submit to the Association of American Indian Physicians Office as directed on the application.

- Health care disparities in American Indian populations
- Biomedical and Clinical Research presentation and tours
- How to pay for your health professions education
- Hear from American Indian health professional students
- Learn effective study skills and test taking strategies
- American Indian Culture and the Culture of Medicine
- Participate in clinical simulation – work with “robotic” patients to learn clinical skills
- Hospital tours
- Social events with American Indian physicians, tribal elders and communities
- Small group advising sessions
