Association of American Indian Physicians signs Memorandum of Understanding with National Council of Urban Indian Health

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP) Board President, Ron Shaw, MD, and Executive Director, Polly Olsen, met with the National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH) Board President, Ashley Tuomi, DHSc, and NCUIH Interim Executive Director, Alejondro Bermudez Del Villar, MA, on January 26th, 2017, in Washington D.C. to formally sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The MOU seeks for both organizations to work together in mutual collaboration to improve the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Both organizations will work towards providing educational opportunities to Urban Indian Health Programs (UIHP’s), increasing the development and expansion of culturally-competent care for AI/AN’s living in urban areas, continue working to reduce and eliminate health disparities, and support health improvement across Indian Country.

NCUIH is a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership-based organization devoted to the support and development of quality, accessible and culturally-sensitive healthcare programs for American Indian and Alaska Natives living in urban communities. NCUIH fulfills it mission through resource development and sharing, education, training & technical assistance and leadership development for providers that serve American Indians in urban areas.

Since 1971, the primary goal of AAIP is to improve the overall health and wellness of American Indians and Alaska Natives. Our mission is “to pursue excellence in Native American healthcare by promoting education in the medical disciplines, honoring traditional healing principles and restoring the balance of mind, body, and spirit”
