AAIP Member Physicians Sign Up to Become Mentors to Health Science Students Through Partnership with the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
AAIP Asks for Member Physicians’ Support in Mentoring Health Science Students in Partnership with the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Dear AAIP Member Physicians,
The Association of American Medical Colleges’ Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP) is in the process of implementing an exciting program for health science students. SMDEP is working with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and MentorNet to launch a program that will offer physician mentors to health science students across the country. Through this program, physicians will have the opportunity to communicate directly with students to offer information and advice that will positively affect the students’ performance, expectations and eventual employment as health care professionals.
AAIP hopes that you will consider pledging your support to a student through this collaboration as mentoring can be a fun and direct way to use your expertise to make a positive difference in the lives of our Native students.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this innovative new program or you would like to offer your help, please contact Sakima Jones at sjones@aamc.org.
Thank you all for continuing to champion our Native students as they continue their pathways into health care for our tribal communities!
