Nicole Stern, MD, MPH, FACP, FAMSSM
Dr. Nicole Stern is a citizen of the Mescalero Apache Tribe of New Mexico and the first physician in her tribe. She earned her MD, and completed an Internal Medicine residency, at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Tucson. She was a Primary Care Sports Medicine fellow at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, and received a MPH in Health Management from Harvard. She was a Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Minority Health Policy at Harvard Medical School where her practicum project focused on American Indian physician workforce development.
Currently, Dr. Stern is an Associate Professor of Medical Education at the California University of Science and Medicine, and the Urgent Care Clinical Department Head at Sutter Health Pesetas Urgent Care and a member of the Board of Directors for Sansum Medical Group Santa Barbara. She is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and has extensive experience with the Association of American Indian Physicians, having served as President and two-time At-Large-Director on the Board of Directors. Dr. Stern serves on national committees with the Association of American Medical Colleges and other national organizations, and actively engages in strategic initiatives focused on including American Indians and Alaska Natives within national conversations around health care workforce development and medical school diversity.
