Applications for the 2025 CHEF program are now open!

APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 15, 2024 (Applications open July 8th and close November 15th)

Purpose:
The purpose of this fellowship is to increase the diversity of physician leaders in climate and health equity from racial/ethnic groups that are underrepresented in medicine (URiM)*, Underrepresented in medicine means those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population.
*as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

Expectations:  Fellows are expected to
~Be a member of one or more of the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health’s member medical societies. A complete list may be found on the Consortium’s website at https://medsocietiesforclimatehealth.org/about/member-societies/

~Meet in-person for a two-day (Saturday – Sunday) program orientation in February/March 2025, in Washington, DC (airfare & hotel included).
~Clear your calendars to be able to participate in all semi-monthly virtual meetings, two half days per month of each month from February through December to obtain knowledge- and skills-based training on climate change and health equity. These days/times are the 2nd Fridays, 1:00pm – 5:00pm ET (10:00am – 2:00pm PT), and the 4th Thursday evenings, 5:00pm – 9:00pm ET (for those in the eastern/southern/midwest group) or 5:00pm – 9:00pm PT (for those in the western group).
~No more than one unexcused absence or two excused absences.
~Complete readings, assignments, and preparations between meetings to allow for active participation in meetings.
~Complete all engagement assignments on-time throughout the program.
~Complete an approved Capstone project.
~Participate in limited ad-hoc meetings with community groups, funders, state network affiliates, policy makers.
~Increase engagement in advocacy activities (e.g. speaking with policymakers, writing op-eds or letters to the editor, participating on state climate action coalitions, recording health voices videos, preparing testimony, etc.).
~Provide on-going feedback, end of program evaluation and post program evaluation.
~Complete the Climate and Health Equity Fellowship (CHEF)  program able to effectively promote equitable- and health-focused climate mitigation and adaptation policy solutions.
~Will be paid $2,500 quarterly for meeting the expectations and completing deliverables as outlined for a total of $10,000.
~Competitive applicants are excellent doctors and have demonstrated interest in working at the intersection  of climate, health, and equity.
