NIH-NHLBI Martha Vaughan Postdoctoral Fellowship

The NIH-NHLBI Martha Vaughan Fellowship celebrates the contributions of Dr. Martha Vaughan. She was a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and had a distinguished mentorship career, including mentoring a Nobel laureate and working on the NAS Committee on Human Rights.
Applying for the NIH-NHLBI Vaughan Fellowship
Eligibility
- PhD candidates: Expected or actual degree conferral between May 2023 and May 2025
- MD candidates: Expected or actual completion of residency or specialty training between May 2023 and May 2025
- Terminal degree (MD or PhD) from US institution
- Current NHLBI fellows are not eligible to apply
Criteria for selection of Vaughan Fellows
- Research accomplishments
- Potential for training and growth during the duration of the Vaughan fellowship
- Desire to perform postdoctoral research in specific NHLBI Intramural labs on the main Bethesda, MD NIH campus or in Framingham, MA
- Potential to mentor other scientists and improve the scientific community, evidenced by current activities
