Paradise Point Resort & Spa

Some of NIDDK’s goals are to reduce and eliminate health disparities, expand research education and training opportunities for underrepresented minority scientists and provide information to racial and ethnic minority groups about treatment, prevention and self-management of diseases. As a result, it is essential to diversify the biomedical and health care workforce with research scientists who are culturally competent and responsive to multiple cultural and social needs of underserved minority and socio-economically deprived populations.
NIDDK Travel Award Scholarships will be offered to a limited number of undergraduate American Indian/Alaska Native students who may have interest in biomedical research relating to NIDDK’s mission areas including diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, nutrition, obesity and digestive, liver, urologic, kidney and hematologic diseases. As recipients of this award, students will receive paid travel expenses to the AAIP Annual Conference, lodging and per diem. Students will be required to attend a workshop on NIDDK Research Training Opportunities (TBA) while at the Annual Conference. Students who do not attend the workshop will not be eligible to receive per diem and would be responsible for reimbursing NIDDK for travel and lodging expenses.
Students who have previously participated in the NIDDK Diversity Summer Research Training Program or have received an NIDDK scholarship in the past are not eligible to apply.
To apply for the NIDDK undergraduate student travel award, students must submit a Primary Data Sheet, personal statement, must be an undergraduate AI/AN student, must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and must have an interest in biomedical research and the NIDDK scientific research areas.
The deadline to submit a Primary Data Sheet and all required documentation is Thursday, August 10, 2023 and the Primary Data Sheet and all materials must be received by Winnie Martinez at NIDDK on this date.
